The techniques of sports massage, soft tissue manipulation and stretching are commonly used to alleviate tight muscles, spasms, scar tissue, discomfort, postural imbalances and to further improve mobility.
An overall posture assessment can be carried out to determine causes and effects of acute or chronic trauma and further direct a treatment plan. Also, singular joint assessments can be executed to analyse a specific injury site. These tests determine if an injury is due to muscular or structural breakdown.
After a fault is detected, a rehabilitation programme can be devised in order to promote recovery and strengthen the area to repel against further re-injury. Rehab programmes are customised to every individual and can involve further treatment, ultrasound therapy, stretching techniques, strength training and endurance programmes. Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves to create a deep micro-massage to a damaged site. This speeds up the recovery process, reduces inflammation, reduces pain and further improves mobility. Ultrasound can also soften scar tissue. It is a great tool in rehabilitation.
I am very excited to offer certified massage during pregnancy. This course allowed me to further my sports therapy knowledge in order to treat any stage of pregnancy. Massage during pregnancy is very effective at reducing stress and easing any musculo-skeletal discomfort that may be experienced. It is an area that really interests me and I hope to study even further in this direction in the future!
